Professor Ian Peate

Professor Ian Peate is a prominent figure in the fields of nursing and health care, he is Editor-in-Chief, British Journal of Nursing, Founding Consultant Editor Journal of Paramedic Practice and Consultant Editor International Journal for Advancing Practice. He was Consultant Editor Journal of Operating Department Practitioners. He is a respected nurse academic, author and editor with extensive experience in education and practice. Ian has authored and edited numerous textbooks and articles on nursing and health care, contributing significantly to the literature. His career has spanned various roles, including clinical nursing, nursing education and leadership positions. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of nursing and was awarded an OBE for his services to Nursing and Nurse Education.

Sanjay Deshpande

Consultant in Anaes/ITU

Sanjay has been a consultant in Anaesthesia and iCM for the past 24 years. He is passionate about VTE prevention, and has been a speaker at national and international meetings. Sanjay is involved with Quality Improvement Audits in VTE prevention and has been published in multiple journals. He participates in medical education, is a Course Director, has completed an AIM course and is an ALS Instructor. Sanjay is passionate about charity work, which he's been doing for past 15 years. Some of his hobbies include travelling, making friends and reading books.

Emma Gee

Nurse Consultant, Thrombosis & Coagulation

King’s College Hospital

Emma Gee is a nurse consultant in thrombosis and coagulation at King's College Hospital in London and leads the VTE Specialists Network (VSN), a National network for nurses and allied health professionals. Emma is also the associate director of the VTE Exemplar Centres Network, a National Network of centres with a track record of high quality VTE prevention care. She has a specialist interest in leadership, completing an MSc in Advanced Practice and Leadership and the prestigious Florence Nightingale Foundation Leadership Scholarship.

Danel Meno

Senior Infection Prevention & Control Nurse- Education Lead

Whittington Health (NHS trust)

Danel Meno holds a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a master’s degree in Infection Prevention and Control with distinction from the University of West London (UWL). With more than 15 years of nursing experience, including a background in post-anaesthetic care, he currently serves as a senior Infection Prevention and Control practitioner at the Whittington Health NHS Trust in London. He is an active member of the Infection Prevention Society (IPS) and serves on several committees. In 2024, he was honoured as the Infection Prevention Nurse of the Year by the British Journal of Nursing awards.

Romaine Mitchell

Nurse/ Midwife

Sussex & Hampshire

A varied career that started in Orthopaedics, ward based surgical nursing, then Scrub nurse in Plastic Surgery, Maxillofacial Surgery, including reconstruction and general ENT surgery. Subsequently a Midwife, including scrub for elective Caesarean sections, private Fertility & Gynaecology clinic assisting with surgical Egg Retrieval and later experience in Opthalmic surgery. Career highlights outside of theatre include BPAS - British Pregnancy Advisory Service and Sexual Health nursing.
